What is the philosophy of DOUIE Hamburg?
Slow and sustainable – with style! DOUIE Hamburg focuses on what really counts: fashionable love pieces made from natural materials that protect our earth's resources, invite us to feel good and underline our personal style. At DOUIE Hamburg, sustainability is top priority alongside design and high quality and ranges from fair working conditions for employees to the materials in the collection. Instead of fast trends, DOUIE Hamburg focuses on high-quality, hand-made favorite pieces made of soft knits that we can enjoy for a long time. Only natural materials are used in the production of DOUIE Hamburg's sweaters and cardigans in order to have as little impact on our environment as possible. DOUIE Hamburg's garments are designed to be worn for longer than one season. They become key elements of our wardrobe and staples in our closet that we never want to be without.
What is the story behind the label?
The story of DOUIE Hamburg begins around 9,206 kilometers from our Hanseatic city - in South America. “I had the idea for DOUIE Hamburg last year when I traveled to Bogota for work,” says founder Sonja. “I was told beforehand that it was always hot there, but that was obviously misinformation. So, while I was shivering, I bought a wonderfully fluffy mohair cardigan from an old knitting lady at a local weekly market and the following weekend in Hamburg I was asked about this knitted item 10 times." Then the Hamburg woman realized that the cozy cardigan, in that she had fallen for in Colombia was so much more than a spontaneous holiday purchase - namely a real love piece for her and many other women. “A cardigan suits every woman and you always feel comfortable in it,” says Sonja. “I personally love cardigans, whether oversized or tight-fitting. At work with a blouse or in the evening as a loungey knitted item to feel good.” With DOUIE Hamburg, she has now turned her favorite cozy item into a must-have piece for all of us.
How is the collection made?
Handmade with Love! Every single one of the high-quality knitted items from DOUIE Hamburg is made by hand with a lot of love. The design is created in Hamburg and the production takes place 100% in Europe - from the yarn to the manufacturing. As a result, DOUIE Hamburg manages to keep transport routes short and significantly reduce CO2 pollution compared to conventional industrial processes. The aim of DOUIE Hamburg is not only to produce fairly produced knitwear, but also to actively promote change in the fashion industry as a young company.
The knitting companies that DOUIE Hamburg works with are also subject to an ethical code of conduct to ensure fair wages and working conditions for all employees involved in production. Because sustainable production conditions and the people who produce the DOUIE Hamburg collection with a lot of love and passion are particularly important to the founder. “At the end of 2019, I was in large wool companies that are GOTS certified in both Spain and Italy and looked at the knitting companies that have been knitting for many German companies for many years,” says DOUIE Hamburg founder Sonja. “The ladies who work there are either retired, can't find a permanent job, are single parents or can't earn money in any other way. So we’re doing something good here too by supporting women’s independence.”
What materials does DOUIE use?

Only long-lasting, natural materials are used at DOUIE Hamburg. High-quality natural yarns that come from yarn suppliers in Europe form the starting point of the collection. In the current line, mohair wool plays the main role, which has been awarded the “Certified Sustainable Mohair” seal. This stands for sustainable production to protect the environment and animals. Mohair, the fine hair of the mohair or angora goat, is a noble wool and is characterized by its softness and lightness. It also scores points with its insulating properties. Mohair is very warming in winter and has a cooling effect in summer. The fine wool is also water-repellent and absorbs moisture at the same time, oh
no feeling wet. And, despite being so delicate, the material is extremely durable and hard-wearing. Mohair does not felt as easily as other types of wool, is dirt-repellent and easy to clean, so we can enjoy our fluffy fashion favorites made from mohair for a long time.
